Triple Helix, a new series by John Byrne. Coming soon…September 2013? from @IDWPublishing.
John had this to say after finishing the first issue April, 11, 2013.
In case I didn’t already mention this, it’s a continuation from where we left off in TRIO, but One, Two and Three are “guest stars” in this new title. Thought it might be fun to do a sort of “series of crossovers”, where each four issue miniseries picks up from the end of the last, but with a different title and new characters.
This plays to the overall effect I have been trying for, first with TRIO, now with ****** ***** — I want these books to read as if they’ve been around for a while, so the reader is dropped into the middle of the action, instead of having to wade thru an origin issue (or six). Backstory is picked up as we go along.
This is, of course, how I was first introduced to comics. Superman, Batman, Flash, even the FF had been around for a while (I had no idea how long!), and it was fun to “play detective” and pick up the Who, What, Where, When and Why as I read, issue to issue.
Scenes from Joe Hill’s NOS4A2 signing at Mysterious Galaxy last night. You can’t say I didn’t try to end this scourge, but he somehow survived.
The event was actually a blast — the store was overrun with people, many of whom brought with or picked up new copies of Locke & Key; the reading introducing Charlie Manx had ‘em suitably interested, and the Q&A was good fun, too.
Konga #4 cover by Steve Ditko, December 1961.
Good Bat Boy sighting in the newspaper today (I can’t be the only one who still reads newspapers, right? Either way, I have a highly trained eye when it comes to spotting Bat Boy anywhere) — from today’s Lio by Mark Tatulli.
G.I. Joe: Special Missions #3 “Untold Tales of Terror” cover by Jim Rugg
G.I. Joe #3 variant cover by Sean Chen
My Little Pony #7 covers
The New Teen Titans by George Perez, in honor of Marv Wolfman’s birthday today.
Marv and George’s New Teen Titans 16 was the comic that brought me to DC after only being a Marvel kid. Marv also inspired me to write my first fan letter when I was a little kid, for his work on Fantastic Four, which netted me an actual No-Prize (the reward for a kid sending in a hand-written fan-letter, not for anything like pointing out an error in the comic).
Gene Simmons likes to mention how he and Marv once created a fanzine together back before he formed KISS, but their paths obviously diverged from there. Which turned out good for comics… but had Marv only played the sax or some other instrument back then, his world might be very different now…
Anyway, happy birthday to the Wolfman!
